Christmas Parade 2013

Since Kaylee joined the American Heritage Girls troop we have had many new opportunities and learning experiences. During Christmas, we went caroling at a retirement community and we were also in the county parade.

The girls were each given a blank cutout of a Christmas tree made out of foam. Our homework was to decorate the tree to carry/wear during the annual Christmas Parade. Kaylee was very excited because this was her first time in a parade.

Each girl started with a blank foam Christmas Tree. Kaylee decided to paint her tree green.

It was a cold and windy day. All of us had rosy wind burned cheeks. But, Kaylee never complained. We waited an hour by our float for the parade to start. We had to be there early because they closed the roads close to parade starting time. The girls kept busy by decorating the tree that was part of our float. 

We had a quick picnic lunch before the parade.

American Heritage Girls

Kaylee joined American Heritage Girls in October. We were originally going to join Girl Scouts, but decided that we liked AHG better. It is considered a Christ centered alternative to Girl Scouts. Kaylee and I both are enjoying the troop. She has already done many activities and earned her sewing badge.

Recently, she earned her joining award during the joining ceremony. She was happy to light and hold a candle.

The AHG Troop worked hard each week from September to December to earn their sewing badge. They had to sew and make a pin cushion, sew and make a letter pillow, and sew on two different kinds of buttons.

Recently, they went caroling at a retirement community. Kaylee loves to sing Christmas carols.

Kaylee and I both really enjoy being part of the American Heritage Girls. There are so many opportunities and experiences! It was a great decision to join the troop.
